OCP upgrade steps for Cloudera Data Services on premises

Learn about the process for upgrading Cloudera Data Services on premises that requires coordinating updates with the corresponding OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) version upgrades.

All upgrades to 1.5.5 SP2 must use a minimum version of OpenShift Container Platform 4.16. Intermediate OCP versions are tested with existing workloads, but Cloudera recommends selecting a supported OCP version for a given data services release based on the Cloudera Support Matrix.

Ensure that the OpenShift namespace name is 29 characters or less. Do not proceed with the upgrade if the namespace name is 30 or more characters in length.
You must upgrade Cloudera Manager to version 7.11.3.700 before beginning the multi-hop upgrade from Cloudera Data Services on premises 1.5.4 SP2 or 1.5.5 to 1.5.5 SP2. To complete this process, you must first upgrade to Cloudera Data Services on premises 1.5.5 SP1 (if you are using Cloudera AI Workbench, then you must upgrade Cloudera AI after upgrading to Cloudera Data Services on premises 1.5.5 SP1) and then upgrade to version 1.5.5 SP2 and then Cloudera AI Workbench.

Update Cloudera Data Services on premises from 1.5.5 SP1 to 1.5.5 SP2.
Perform post-upgrade validations of existing resources and workloads.

If you are using Cloudera Data Services on premises, then post-upgrade validations of existing resources and workloads are not supported until you upgrade to minimum OCP version to 4.16 and upgrade Cloudera Data Services on premises workloads version to 1.5.5 SP2. Upgrade OCP from 4.18 to 4.19.
Upgrade new and existing resources as required.
Perform validations on all data services to verify that the new and preexisting data and workloads continue to function properly.

Starting point: Cloudera Data Services on premises 1.5.4 CHF1 or 1.5.4 CHF3 OCP 4.14 and 1.5.4 SP1or 1.5.4 SP2 on OCP 4.18.

Perform post-upgrade validations of existing resources and workloads.
