Fixed issues and resolved maintenance items for YARN and YARN Queue Manager are
addressed in Cloudera Runtime 7.3.2 and its associated service
packs.
Cloudera Runtime 7.3.2.10000 SP1
- COMPX-26640: Added SSL/TLS support for Postgres in QueueManager
- 7.3.2.10000
- Previously, Queue Manager did not support TLS/SSL for PostgreSQL JDBC connections, and
was unable to establish secure database connections. This issue is now resolved and this
fix automatically appends
?ssl=true&sslmode=require to the JDBC URL
when a secured connection is configured, and sets the truststore using the
CLIENT_TRUSTSTORE_LOCATION and
CLIENT_TRUSTSTORE_PASSWORD environment variables.
- COMPX-26371: YARN autoscaling fails to trigger upscaling when pending Application
Master (AM) reaches resource limits
- 7.3.2.10000
- The YARN autoscaling logic v1 failed to trigger upscaling when pending Application
Masters hit the AM resource limit, even though free cluster capacity existed — causing
queues to freeze. A new UpscaleServiceV2 component is now introduced and it accounts for
pending applications and AM constraints independently of available cluster resources,
enabling proper scaling in AM-constrained scenarios.
- COMPX-19423: YARN, MapReduce, and Queue Manager communications were not fully
encrypted on the wire.

- YARN, MapReduce, and Queue Manager did not enforce TLS encryption across all
communication ports, leaving some inter-process and HTTP traffic unencrypted.
This
issue is now resolved and all YARN, MapReduce, and Queue Manager communications now
support encryption on the wire with a minimum of TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3 support, along
with a new inclusive cipher configuration
(ssl.server.include.cipher.list) and a Cloudera Manager parameter to set the supported SSL/TLS versions
(hadoop.ssl.enabled.protocols). Cloudera Manager
also auto generates certificates for YARN application https endpoints when
encrypt-all-ports is enabled.
- CDPD-109451: YARN Queue Manager UI failed to load due to false detection of mixed
resource allocation mode

- Previously,Queue Manager incorrectly detected YARN as being in mixed resource
allocation mode after a patch upgrade, causing the Queue Manager UI to fail to load.
This issue is now resolved to eliminate the false positive detection, allowing Queue
Manager to initialize and load successfully after upgrades.
- COMPX-26550: Add serialization fallback logic to the RM's JsonProvider

- When a class included in a YARN Resource Manager API response was not registered in
either of the Replication Manager's (RM) JSON serialization lists, the RM API failed to
serialize the response. This issue is now resolved and this fix prevents serialization
failures for unregistered classes.

RMQueueAclInfo to Resource Manager context

- Resolved an issue where the YARN queue access API
(/ws/v1/cluster/queues/{queue}/access) returned a 503 MessageBodyWriter not found error. The issue was
caused by a missing serialization configuration for the RMQueueAclInfo object, which is
now corrected to ensure proper JSON serialization of queue ACL responses.
- COMPX-25092: YARN web proxy (AmIpFilter) allows TRACE/TRACK requests
- 7.3.2.10000
- Previously, the YARN web proxy (AmIpFilter) did not block HTTP TRACE/TRACK requests,
allowing them to bypass Spark UI's security rejections and causing security scanners to
flag the vulnerability. This issue is now resolved and updates AmIpFilter to explicitly
block TRACE/TRACK methods, returning a 405 Method Not
Allowed response.
- CDPD-101578: ZooKeeper client TLS truststore password exposed through Resource Manager
JVM command-line arguments

- The YARN Resource Manager passed the ZooKeeper TLS truststore password through Java
command-line options, making it visible thorugh the ps commands on
the host. This fix secures truststore handling by applying the ZooKeeper truststore
password from the environment variable when it is omitted from the JVM command line and
initializing JVM SSL defaults from ssl-client.xml.
- COMPX-27281: Client JVM SSL fails when JDK_JAVA_OPTIONS omits
javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword

- Resolved an issue on FIPS-enabled clusters (7.3.2.10000 and higher versions) where
Hadoop and HBase client JVMs failed TLS initialization due to a BCFKS calculation error
when
javax.net.ssl.trustStore and
javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword were missing. This fix adds
ssl-client.xml truststore settings to JVM defaults for HDFS dfs
client processes, resolving S3A SSLContext.getDefault() BCFKS failures.
- COMPX-24920: YARN Resource Manager fails to start after upgrade due to missing child
queue names for root

- During YARN startup in a High Availability environment, the YARN Resource Manager
intermittently failed to start due to race conditions between two ResourceManagers (RM).
One RM started up while another was cleaning up with -format-conf-store, displaying a
missing child of the root queue.
This issue is now resolved by backporting the
upstream fix (YARN-11924) with retry mechanism to ensure both RMs start with valid
configuration.

- COMPX-24546: Queue Manager lacked FIPS 140-3 cryptographic algorithm validation
coverage

- Queue Manager did not have test coverage to validate that its cryptographic algorithms
comply with FIPS 140-3 standards. CryptoSense/SandboxAQ tests are now added to verify
FIPS 140-3 compliance across the primary Queue Manager code paths that leverage
cryptography.

- YARN was not compliant with FIPS 140-3 requirements in 7.3.2 SP1 for private cloud and
FedRAMP environments, with issues including non-FIPS-compliant cipher suites, insecure
truststore password handling through RM command-line arguments, and missing Cloudera
SASL provider configuration.
The fix updates YARN to use FIPS 140-3 compatible cipher
suites, secures truststore password handling for the Resource Manager, and integrates
CryptoSense-validated cryptographic operations to ensure full FIPS 140-3
compliance.
- COMPX-23924: YARN services did not support dual-stack/IPv6 networking

- YARN services did not support IPv4/IPv6 preferences, preventing proper connectivity in
dual-stack network environments. YARN now starts services with the appropriate
java.net.preferIPv4Stack and
java.net.preferIPv6Addresses flags based on the
IP_VERSION configuration setting, enabling correct resolution to IPv4
and/or IPv6 addresses.

- Previously, clients could not connect to the Job History Server or its API endpoints
using IPv6 addresses. Dual-stack/IPv6 support is now added to HttpServer2, allowing the
Job History Server to resolve and bind to both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses based on the
IP_VERSION configuration setting.

jts-core in
MR-framework

- After the Parquet upgrade from 1.15.2 to 1.16.0, MapReduce jobs failed with ClassNotFoundException:
org.locationtech.jts.io.ParseException. This issue is now resolved and this
fix adds
jts-core as a dependency in the parquet-hadoop-bundle,
ensuring it is available on the container classpath at runtime.

- CDPD-49702: Error in NodeManager when executing
/var/lib/yarn-ce/bin/container-executor

- Previously, a job failure occurred because NodeManager returned a No such file or directory error when attempting to run the
/var/lib/yarn-ce/bin/container-executor program. This issue is now
resolved and NodeManager is now marked as unhealthy and shut down if it is unable to run
the program.

- COMPX-13401: CapacityScheduler UI queue filter does not work as expected when
submitting applications with leaf queue's name

- Previously, when submitting applications to YARN using only a leaf queue name, for
example,
default or custom, instead of the full queue
path, for example, root.default, the ResourceManager (RM) and
CapacityScheduler UI inconsistently displayed or filtered applications. This led to
confusion, as the same queue could be displayed under different names, and applications
were not visible under the expected queue filter in the UI.This issue is now resolved
and RM now returns the full queue path regardless of whether the application was
submitted with a leaf queue name or a full queue path.

Previously, the NodeManager created its required local directories on startup with
the correct 755 permissions only if they did not already exist.
If an administrator created these directories with incorrect permissions, or if the
permissions were altered after the NodeManager started, the NodeManager failed to
reset them. This lack of permission enforcement caused container failures. This issue
is now resolved.

- Previously, the NodeManager disk health status could oscillate rapidly between
good and full states when using the
yarn.nodemanager.disk-health-checker.min-free-space-per-disk-mb
property because it relied on a single threshold. This issue is now fixed. To prevent
this oscillation, the
yarn.nodemanager.disk-health-checker.min-free-space-per-disk-watermark-high-mb
optional configuration property is now available. This setting allows administrators to
specify the minimum free space in megabytes required for a previously bad disk to be
marked as good again. If this value is not set or is lower than the
YARN.nodemanager.disk-health-checker.min-free-space-per-disk-mb
value, it defaults to the same value as the existing minimum free space configuration.
This update applies to both YARN.nodemanager.local-dirs and
YARN.nodemanager.log-dirs directories, providing more granular control over
disk health checks.

- By design, Node Managers are marked unhealthy if an unrecoverable configuration error
occurrs, that is, the
container-executor
script is missing. Previously, a falase positive marking occurred if an application
application was terminated just before one of its containers was tried to access the
localizer syslog file. This caused an IOException, and the Node Managers was incorrectly
marked unhealthy. This issue is now resolved. The error checking is more specific,
preventing these false positive unhealthy markings.

- Previously, Tez startup failed on 7.3.2.0 FIPS clusters, caused by a conflict between
Cloudera Manager, which set
hadoop.security.secret-manager.key-generator.algorithm to
HmacSHA256, and Tez's older, hardcoded use of the
HmacSHA1 algorithm. This issue is now resolved by upgrading Tez to
version 0.10.5 and updating its secret managers to dynamically respect the algorithm
configured by Hadoop at runtime. This change prevents the recurring DIGEST-MD5: digest response format violation errors.
